Retinal Detachment : Review

After a mth since I did my operation, I'm here again for a review. I do hope it's the final review although I seriously doubt it as my vision is still blur n I've been seeing a few floaters during this past week.

Nevertheless I'm still thankful for the many things tat has occurred in this short span of 30 days.

From the initial pre-assessment of only having half of my vision for my left eye, to doing an emergency & super traumatic operation on New Year's Eve, and having to rely only on my other senses for the initial few days. I'm thankful to God for his miracle healing. It seem so long ago but its only been a mth when I couldn't even open my two eyes becoz the left eye was so swollen tat it hurt even trying to open the right one.

It was a situation whereby there's nothing much one can do except pray and ask God for protection. It was when I really felt helpless and a time when I could only look to God for peace, for help - complete reliance, just like an infant relied completely on mummy for milk.

Im also thankful for Uncle Pig, his prayers & constant caring tat help speed up the healing process. At the review today, the doctor even mentioned tat it was a test of his love for me. I don't know y he said tat, but it was true. I wouldn't have make it, if not for Uncle Pig.. 他那种无微不至地照顾和爱护,只希望我能赶快康复。我真的深深感受到了,也非常blessed他在我的身边。Actions that may sound trivial but matters so much to me.. Eg, Although it was only required to clean the eye once a day, but it was having so much discharge tat we cleaned it every few hrs, changed the dressing n he made sure the tape was "double-sided" so tat it won't hurt my face with the frequent changing of dressing. When I was well enough to stop putting on the eye patch, I rem asking him why my eye still remained so swollen n red, and I rem his reply vividly " Dear, you have not seen the worse." Indeed. According to him, for the first week after the op, my eye was red swollen and blueblack, very scary. And although the gentle giant was worried n heartbroken, he had to swollen his tears whenever he sees me, for fear tat I will realise how jialat it has become and be overly worried. It's a testimonial of being there for better or worse & how deeply blessed I am to have him as my hubby. =)

After seeing the doctor, he concluded tat I was recovering very very well such tat there was no need to see him again until July! Much as I'm puzzled why he said so, a trip back to my regular optician, Hazel, confirmed this as well. Although my degree will increase by 150 deg n my left vision will be downgraded to 6/9, both felt tat it was already much better than most patients. For this, I'm thankful. The doctor even suggested going to HK since we missed out previously! Haha.. Such a sweet doctor.. Sweet tat he remembered. I've made my new pair of glasses today and so looking forward to wearing them ! Thank God also for Hazel, who was alert n highlighted the problem. She even called me a few days ago, juz to check my recovery process, something beyond her call of duty.

Thank you also to all who prayed for me before, during and after the op. Thank you for all yr prayers and love.

RD - Period

It's official! I'm having a period on my left eye.. Haha.. Juz saw the doc for my review appt. He was very pleased with what's happening inside my eye. When I asked him abt the discharge, his reply was tat it's quite common and anyway tats happening on the exterior of the eye n no cause for alarm. He reminded me tat he did mentioned to me after the op tat the eye would b red and swollen. "Red and swollen?!!" " more like bleeding and swollen, I thought in my mind."
In fact, the bleeding has not subsided and it kinda really feel like having a period, with the need of changing a pad every few hrs. Otherwise my left eye will b swimming in a filled water goggle again.

Anyway he says the healing is so gd tat he don't see a reason to skip the hk trip tomorrow!! How not to love such a cute doctor? Haha.. Anyway I told him tat we've decided to skip the trip , esp since I have to be on the eye patch for another 1 week! Yes, one more week.. And MC is given now for a mth, and he says I can request for more if the need requires. If only I can claim for MC.. Haha..
But nevertheless, I'm thankful tat the review appt turned out well. Although I feel the same, but I'm sure I will get better! Thank you to all who prayed for us.

This journey has not only strengthened my faith with God, but also my love with Uncle Pig. Sometimes, we juz need a little crisis in our lives to feel loved, don't we? :p

RD - Day 4

Just went I thought I was almost recovering, I woke up early this morning and realised tat my eye patch was overflowed with discharge. I mix have accidentally scratched myself while sleeping. Oh my God! How could I be so careless?

The rest of the day became quite hectic as I had to change my eye patch almost every 1-2hrs. (imagine having period , but on yr eye). By evening, my face was red, bcoz of the constant peeling and sticking of new adhesive patches. We had switched to private thin eye patches as compared to the ones given by SNEC which were thick, not nice and messy (imagine using toilet paper vs thin panty liners)

But by evening the thin patches were giving me problems coz they can't adsorb the huge flow n the constant peeling was hurting my face. So I switched back to what the hospital provided . Anyway there was only one piece left, which I hope can last till the next day before I go for my review.

However, by 1045pm, the conventional one was soaking wet and was pretty uncomfortable. (imagine wearing a goggle but filled with water) and uncle pig suggested going to the pharmacy or neighborhood to look for more supplies. He suggested me to zz first if i was tired, which I did.. Kinda half waiting n half zz-ing. After a while, I did fall into deep zz and when I woke up suddenly, I realise tat he's not back yet! My first reaction was to call him , in my half zz mode. He answered, (chirpy mode) saying " I'm at SGH now, and if I can't find it here,I will come bk" . I replied okie and hung up. After hanging up, did I realize tat the time was already 125am!! Omg! How long has my man gone out? Poor darling! 2.5hrs!! Oh dear! I called him immediately n asked him to come bk, irregardless if SGH was available.

My heart ached for this man, who has been running ard for the family, rain or shine, 24/7. I know he's especially tired, with the shifting of his office, my eyes, and everything n it pains me to c him running around at 1am juz to find pads for his Queen! I know he loves me, and never will I doubt him again. Heartache and glad tat he's finally back home safely.

Hopefully the review would provide some answers on the heavy discharge. Have decided to include a pic of me in the eye patch that my hubby painstakingly went to find..  Thank you dear!

RD - Day 3 Updates

It's day 3 since my operation on Saturday , and based on the review by the doc y'day, he says I'm okie to fly.. serious? Really? Yesh yesh, can fly to HK.. but of course we have to do a final review on Wednesday, before we can really confirm it. Anyway, I told Uncle Pig that I'm not comfortable flying coz of all the risks involved and much as I really yearn for a trip to relax, before the twins are here. But if the trip entails more of care-taking and less of enjoyment, then we shall stay at home bah.. it's a pity course, we've paid for all the tickets, accomodations and such, and mostly are non-refundable.. but I guess, we can always go another time. :)

Anyway, I was glad to make the decision not to go y'day, coz I woke up feeling very bad today. I dont know why it's the case because, by right, shouldn't I be recovering and feeling better as the ay passes? But instead of feeling as good as y'day, I felt worse today. My eyes were swollen, and opening them was not something easy. I'm closing my eyes while typing this blog! Haha.. but that's bcoz i'm using a keyboard, so it's much easier.. Anyway, my migraine is back and I'm also wondering if it's connected to the eye.. nevertheless, pls continue to pray for me.. and once again, thank you for all yr prayers!

I guess, this journey, sometimes resembles our Christian walklife when at times, you feel that you are moving ahead at full speed, but sometimes, God just wants you to rest and stop, and seek Him. We meet obstacles here and there, but we have ot remember that God's with us all throughout, and I know He's with us now. It can only be him, that I healed so fast for the first 2 days and I'm completely thankful for that. I just have to continue to pray for his healing powers on me, so that by wed, I can say byes to the eye patch and give a good testimonial on wed cell grp!

Okie, think that's for now..

p/s: will be pretty slow in replying msgs coz I can't really read the small words on my hp..

RD - Updates

After replying "no medicine allergies" and telling everyone >100 times tat " I'm pregnant" , the op finally ended and I was discharged.

Had wanted to do this earlier but couldn't coz the hurting eye made it difficult to open the right eye as well. I was literally a blind bat walking with my two eyes close around the house with Joy as my walking stick.

The op was successful (Thank God and all who prayed for me!), although I also died in the operating theatre. Being pregnant means tat instead of being on GA , I was on LA (local anaesthesia ) which means tat I was conscious of the work they were doing on me throughout the procedure! Midway through the op, I reminded asking the doc several times if we were done? And each time he would say "juz a while longer my dear and it would be perfect and u would be able to go to HK !" Haha.. He remembered abt my trip! So nice of him even though I was no longer keen on anything except going home to c my Joy or visiting the gynae to make sure the twins are fine.

Nevertheless I'm glad tat everything is okie now. Would hv to visit again early Tom morning for a review. Hopefully everything is really okie and there's no complications. After this ordeal, I seriously hope tat I don't need to do any ops on my eyes any further. Super respect those tat went to do LASIK to correct their vision. How do they manage to keep their sanity?? Haha.. Anyway, I'm juz glad tt I happen to chop off my hair y'day prior to seeing the doc. It's so much easier to maintain ! Maybe God has told my hairstylist to chop it real short.. Haha..

Okie gotten stop now coz Little Joy says I shldnt be looking at my iPhone too much! Such a sweet girl right! A thankful me to end 2011 and a great start to 2012! Once again thank u for praying!

Retinal Detachment

B
On Monday, while shopping at Ikea, I realised tat there were some problems with my eyesight. It seems tat everything via my left eye (upwards) were blur . I thought it could be the use of old glasses with the wrong degree. Nevertheless, Uncle Pig insisted tat we go for a check with my regular optician for a piece of mind.

After procrastinating for a few days, I finally met the optician, Hazel, on thur. She went thru the screening very detailedly with me and suggested going to the hospital for a more precise check. The appt was for the following day. Despite my pleas to do it after our Hk trip, Hazel and uncle pig felt tat there was a need to do it now.

Went to c the doc on fri, 2pm at SNEC. I had wanted to do it with the private hospital knowing tat I have medical insurance which I can claim from if the bill were to soar upwards. But being the typical Uncle Pig, both him and Hazel suggested seeking treatment at SNEC since it was a specialize centre for the eye. I could always do a second consultation after tat if my experience with the former was undesirable. Anyway in order to skip the waiting time, I went in as a private patient.

At the clinic, they did a lot of tests and finally concluded tat I had Retinal Detachment. Gasp! So what did it mean? It mean tat the retina on my left eye was detached and there was an immediate emergency to do the op now! Now?? Yes, now.. Huh? But I'm pregnant!! Can't it wait till may? Or next week? It's new year eve and I don't wanna cross the year in the hospital! Plus I have a gathering tomorrow at my place, a trip next week and many many things.. Can't we wait? How abt seeking another opinion? Anyway due to the seriousness of the detachment , the doc says we can't wait, not even till next week. He did however , allow the op to be postponed to saturday (new yr eve) early morning as I had juz taken some food an hr ago. Fasting was required prior to the op and I would be on local anaesthesia. There are risks for all ops and esp since I'm pregnant. By this time I was sobbing hard, blaming myself for causing this and maybe hurting my twins indirectly. By this time, I was also the last patient around. The whole hospital seems to have closed except for a few nurses still attending to me. I was comforted tat they were really very nice, assuring and comforting. I didn't feel like i was in a govt hospital and the care while there is very good.

Anyway it's fixed. Op is on sat, 10am.. News started to sink in after we left the hospital and I think my tap didn't really stop even through the night. It was the thought of maybe hurting my twins tat was tormenting me and juz before I zz, I pray again.

Right now , I'm back at the hospital for my op. I told J in the early morning requesting her for a prayer and was shocked to receive her reply. Her words comforted me and juz as I thought my tap has run dry, the final drops came dripping down again. But i did feel better talking to her and I guess, we juz have to leave it to God, and his workers to do the work.

Going to be pushed in soon.. Praying tat everything will be smooth and there would be no complications. Pls direct all calls/SMS to uncle pig.. Love ya and happy new year to everyone!
